(HONG KONG – April 21, 2009) AirMed Asia joins an elite group of air ambulance services to earn accreditation from the Commission of Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) and is now the only program in Asia with accreditation. AirMed is one of only four other international programs to have received this prestigious recognition. CAMTS accreditation represents the highest standards possible for air medical transport services.
As a subsidiary of Birmingham, Alabama-based AirMed International, AirMed Asia began operations in Hong Kong in March, 2008. AirMed Asia operates the only medically dedicated jet in Asia and the Pacific Rim, a U.S. registered Raytheon Hawker 800. AirMed is the first U.S. air ambulance with a permanent base in Asia. AirMed Asia provides specialty care and a seamless transport package to its customers in the region. AirMed International is the leading air ambulance in the U.S. with more than 15,000 transport missions to more than 150 countries.
"The accreditation awarded to AirMed Asia speaks volumes for the quality of our staff and program in Hong Kong," said Jeffrey Tolbert, President and CEO of AirMed International. “We at AirMed remain committed to excellence no matter where we are on the globe.” AirMed’s headquarters in Birmingham and its subsidiary in Honolulu, AirMed Hawaii, are also CAMTS accredited.
CAMTS is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services. CAMTS accreditation is a voluntary process and focuses on the delivery of high quality patient care and safety in the transport environment. The accreditation process involves an on-site survey coupled with a broad review of all facets of the operation. To maintain accreditation, a program must be in significant compliance with the CAMTS Accreditation Standards and demonstrate a high level of overall quality in service.
