AirMed International has been named the recipient of the 2008 AAMS (Association of Air Medical Services) Award for "Excellence in Community Service" for their work on the free industry-wide website www.weatherturndown.com. The award will be presented March 13 at the AAMS Spring Conference held in Washington, D.C.
The purpose of the Weather Turndown website is to promote safety through open sharing of weather information among all air medical programs--rotor and fixed-wing--and to provide an efficient system in which all programs can easily distribute and share information. More than 100 air medical programs across the United States have already registered and are actively using the free service.
“We are pleased and honored to receive this prestigious AAMS recognition,” said Jeffrey Tolbert, President and CEO of AirMed International. “Having a centralized source for weather issues at airports and other facilities across the country will help medical transport companies better serve their patients and keep safety at the forefront of their operations. Weatherturndown.com represents AirMed’s continued commitment to excellence in all aspects of our operation.”
AirMed's Information Technology (IT) Department, headed by Robert C. Carver, Chief Information Officer, led the project on behalf of AirMed. AirMed was nominated for the award by Paul Drucker from the Mayo Clinic’s Mayo MedAir program. In his nomination letter, Mr. Drucker stated, "We at Mayo MedAir are extremely grateful for the ingenuity and drive that lead AirMed IT to create this exceptional service for our program, and we are certain that every other program in the country is just as thankful and appreciative to be able to utilize such a resource."
Drucker added, "Promoting safety and open communication within our industry has always been paramount, and with weatherturndown.com, the entire community can move one step closer to achieving their own goals in those areas."
