Time Magazine Online features AirMed Traveler evacuation and repatriation air ambulance program

(November 21, 2008) - Birmingham-based air medical transport service, AirMed International, was recently featured in an online TIME magazine article in the “Week In Travel” report. AirMed's membership program, called AirMed Traveler, was highlighted for its solid safety net for travelers.

“We are extremely pleased that what we offer to our members garnered attention from such an esteemed name like TIME,” says Jeffery Tolbert, AirMed CEO. “Our memberships give individuals added security and safety, and we hope that through this exposure, more individuals are able to learn about who we are and what we offer.”

AirMed Traveler memberships are available to individuals and groups traveling anywhere in the world who are hospitalized more than 150 miles from home. Coverage is available 24 hours per day, every day of the year. AirMed’s membership coverage uniquely brings patients to a hospital of their choice, not to the “nearest appropriate facility” as is the case of most travel insurance programs, health plans and premium card services.

AirMed memberships begin for as little as $95 with no out-of-pocket costs or co-pays, no financial limitations and no ‘medical necessity’ requirements. Short Term Membership rates start at $95 for a 1-14 day trip. Individual annual memberships cost $250; annual family memberships, which cover two adults and up to five dependents younger than 19, are $350. Customized pricing is available to corporations and groups, as well as employee health plans. AirMed has flown everyone from former presidents to professional athletes and is one of only three approved U.S. Department of Defense air carriers.

Each AirMed aircraft is permanently equipped to provide a state-of-the-art intensive care unit environment and is used exclusively for medical evacuation. All flight crews, medical personnel, and support staff are AirMed employees, making AirMed unique in the industry with its complete vertical integration. The staff has conducted more than 14,000 medical transports and evacuations, visiting 250 countries on six continents. AirMed operates its own dispatch service, flight operations, maintenance, and medical communications center, open 24/7, 365 days a year.
