Unlike most air ambulance companies, AirMed International is the only air ambulance company in the world fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems(CAMTS), the European Aero-Medical Institute (EURAMI), and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). These strict accreditation standards ensure the utmost safety, covering every part of the AirMed operation from patient medical care to aircraft certifications and ongoing safety.
CAMTS (Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) is the only accreditation agency to offer worldwide standards for ground, helicopter and fixed wing medical transport systems. The voluntary review process covers every aspect of the AirMed operation from patient medical care to aircraft safety. CAMTS further recognizes AirMed as 'experts in international medical transports.'
The prestigious CAMTS accreditation is required for air ambulance companies used by the United States Department of Defense, leading international medical centers, and some travel insurance and assistance companies. AirMed is among the only CAMTS accredited programs dispatching its own medical aircraft on a worldwide basis.
EURAMI (European Aero-Medical Institute) is a Stuttgart, Germany, based non-profit association of air medical professionals and operators from 27 countries in and outside Europe. The association aims to promote air rescue and to develop and harmonize quality standards and to improve patient care and safety in air medical transports.
EURAMI Accreditation Standards are periodically revised criteria to assess an air medical service’s level of quality in terms of capabilities, medical management and qualifications, aircraft’s configuration and equipment, operational issues, communications, management policies, and quality management. AirMed is among the very few worldwide programs to hold full accreditation from both CAMTS and EURAMI.
AirMed International has met the requirements set forth by the United States Department of Defense Commercial Airlift Review Board as part of the DoD Air Transport Program. This process consists on-site inspection by the DoD Air Carrier Survey and Analysis Office to determine AirMed International meets the DoD Commercial Air Carrier Quality and Safety Standards. Air carriers in the DoD program are audited and inspected on an ongoing basis to assure the high DoD standards are maintained.
Acceptance by the DoD Air Transport Program as well as accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) is required under the provisions of an AirMed International air ambulance contract with the United States Air Force Air Mobility Command.
AirMed’s air carrier certificate is for worldwide operation, and the company has been given global authority by the FAA. "In the United States, most accredited fixed wing air ambulances are part of hospital-based helicopter programs and operate only on a regional basis," says Jeff Tolbert, AirMed President and CEO. "As the most experienced worldwide air medical company in the United States, AirMed International provides worldwide air medical capability to many of these domestic programs."
