Darby Wix joined AirMed in May 1998 as Chief Pilot. Overseeing all aspects of our Aviation Department, Captain Wix’s professional background brings solid aviation strategy and program implementation to AirMed’s operations. A 1994 Auburn University graduate of the College of Engineering with a degree in Aviation Management, Captain Wix attended SimCom for Hawker 800 training and Flight Safety International for various type ratings training from Beechjet to Learjet. Captain Wix was also appointed an Accident Prevention Counselor by the FAA.
For AirMed, he hires and trains all the pilots, who are obviously a critical part to the medevac team. In addition, he determines flight and duty time requirements and logistical factors for long international trips. He also schedules pilots, assigns trips, coordinates aircraft maintenance with Department of Maintenance (DOM), and reviews dispatch information for trips. Captain Wix also plays a crucial role for AirMed in working with FAA in revising Operation Specifications, Training Programs, and Company Manuals. Most recently, he assisted in the opening of remote bases of operations in Rochester, Minnesota, and Honolulu, Hawaii. Captain Wix has aviation operational experience in over 80 countries.
