Greenwood Village, CO, and Lewisville, TX – Air Medical Group Holdings (AMGH), a KKR portfolio company, and American Medical Response (AMR) today announced the completion of a previously announced combination of the two companies to create a new industry leading medical transportation company. Upon the transaction close, both AMGH and AMR will now operate under the parent company, Global Medical Response. “This is a monumental event in the field of healthcare,” said Global Medical Response President and CEO Randy Owen. “We are partnering the nation’s largest medical transportation organization and the world’s preeminent independent provider of emergent air medical services. Our combined footprint, experience and resources afford us the unparalleled ability to deliver solutions that make a difference in people’s lives everyday. With the dynamic changes in healthcare today, both in clinical medicine and healthcare delivery, the medical teams of AMR and AMGH together will provide innovative approaches to caring for patients and their communities while focusing on advancing the science of out-of-hospital care worldwide.”

Global Medical Response highlights:

  • Air ambulance and ground medical transportation services covering a combined total of 46 states and the District of Columbia
  • Non-emergent air ambulance services around the world
  • More than 35,000 employees located in operations, communication and support centers, and air bases across the United States
  • More than 6,900 medical transportation vehicles, 300 helicopters, 170 fixed wing aircraft and 110 fire protection vehicles

“We’ve been talking about bringing these two great companies together for several years and what we can collectively do together to serve people through all modalities, by payor, by health system, by region,” said AMGH President and CEO Fred Buttrell. “This means we can expand our ability to serve even more people in their most critical time of need. That is what Global Medical Response is all about.”

Team members from both companies have been working together alongside other emergency medical service partners during devastating natural disasters, even well before their merger. In 2017 alone, AMR and AMGH both responded to hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria as well as the California wildfires.

AMR President and CEO Edward Van Horne said “The combination of these two organizations allows us to further expand services in our communities.” He added, “we will continue to increase our ability to provide healthcare and transportation resources to our patients and customers. As part of the newly formed company, we can also offer more services to communities who might otherwise be underserved.”

As part of today’s announcement, Global Medical Response has named Michael Preissler as the company’s Chief Financial Officer and Thomas Cook as General Counsel. The leadership teams for both AMR and AMGH will remain intact under Global Medical Response: Edward Van Horne remains as President and CEO of AMR and Fred Buttrell remains as President and CEO of AMGH. Local and regional leadership of AMR and AMGH will remain substantially unchanged.
